When I was 15 I never thought things through
I picked up a bottle and I didn't have a clue
how fast my innocence would run me blue
or just how many miles i would walk in these shoes
I had teenage beliefs of which i was so proud
I'd sing them in the streets and i'd sing them loud
but i never thought i'd feel alone in a crowd
present self-reflection has got me down
let's go!
Can someone tell me is this growing up?
All these knots in my chest, are they making me tough?
Cos i already feel like i've had it pretty rough
i've been choking on this pain and i wanna cough it up
we both started drinking, it was whirlwind and flash
but i recall him saying you're living in the past
pulled the thorn from my pride and i started to crash
when ya lose yourself how do ya ever come back?
but then the ink from my pen, it started to pour out
regardless of insecurity and self-doubt
cos there's only one thing to save a wretch like me
it's the music in my heart so i listened for the beat
let's go!
And i'm pretty sure that this is growing up
all these painful memories, they made me pretty tough
and i already feel like i am more than enough
